Good Faith Estimate

Under Section 2799B-6 of the Public Health Service Act, healthcare providers must provide a cost estimate to patients without insurance or those not using their insurance for medical items and services.

You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate of the expected costs for any non-emergency services, including mental health care with an out-of-network provider.

Your provider should give you this estimate in writing at least one business day before your scheduled service. You can also request a Good Faith Estimate from your provider, or any other provider, before booking an appointment.

If your final bill is $400 or more above the estimate, you have the right to dispute the charges. Be sure to keep a copy of your Good Faith Estimate for your records.

For more information about your rights to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call HHS at (800) 368-1019.
