Helping couples
bridge the desire gap

Desire discrepancy — when partners experience different levels of sexual interest — is one of the most common and painful challenges couples face. This isn’t just about sex. It’s about rebuilding connection, understanding, and the intimacy language that exists between you.

Dr. Westberg

— hi, I’m Dr. Westberg

As a board-certified sexologist (ACS), AASECT-certified sex educator, and licensed couples counselor (LMFT), I specialize in helping couples overcome desire discrepancy. I’ve helped hundreds of couples transform frustration and distance into understanding and renewed connection.

My approach combines evidence-based practices with compassionate coaching, creating a safe space where both partners feel heard, validated, and equipped with tools that actually work. Whether you’re experiencing occasional mismatches in desire or long-term disconnection, I offer practical support tailored to your specific relationship dynamics.

Desire discrepancy affects up to 80% of couples at some point. Most suffer in silence, believing they’re alone or that something is fundamentally wrong with their relationship. It isn’t. And with the right approach, it can become a doorway to deeper intimacy rather than a source of distance.

— a uniquely comprehensive approach

Bridging sex therapy
and intimacy coaching

As both a licensed sex therapist and certified intimacy coach, I offer an integrated approach that most practitioners can’t. That dual expertise means:

01

Assessment from multiple perspectives

I can determine whether your concerns stem from clinical issues requiring therapeutic intervention or relationship dynamics that would benefit from coaching strategies — and adjust accordingly.

02

Flexibility as your needs evolve

Some clients begin with therapy to address deeper psychological patterns and transition to coaching as they build new skills. Others start with coaching and discover underlying issues that benefit from therapeutic support.

03

Seamless, integrated care

Rather than navigating between providers, you receive integrated support from someone who understands both the clinical aspects of sex therapy and the practical skill-building of intimacy coaching.

04

Diverse methodologies

I combine evidence-based therapeutic techniques with actionable coaching strategies — addressing both healing and growth, not one at the expense of the other.

05

Insurance reimbursement may apply

As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), my therapeutic services may be eligible for out-of-network insurance reimbursement. I recommend contacting your provider before our first session to verify your benefits. Please note that coaching services are typically not covered by insurance plans.

— understanding the difference

Therapy vs. coaching

Sex & Intimacy Therapy

Intimacy Coaching

Addresses clinical sexual issues within a therapeutic framework — performance anxiety, trauma, infidelity, desire discrepancy, anorgasmia

Focuses on practical skill-building, communication tools, and actionable strategies for improving intimacy and connection

Explores deeper psychological patterns, past wounds, and emotional history that shape sexual behavior

Forward-focused and goal-oriented — building new patterns and habits rather than processing the past

May be eligible for out-of-network insurance reimbursement (LMFT services)

Typically not covered by insurance — private pay only

— the coaching process

A proven three-phase approach

01

Assessment & Understanding

We identify your specific desire patterns, triggers, and the full impact on your relationship. No assumptions, no generic frameworks — this phase is about understanding your dynamic specifically.

02

Education & Tools

You’ll learn science-based techniques for communicating about desire without triggering defensiveness — tools drawn from both therapeutic practice and coaching methodology, tailored to where you are.

03

Practice & Integration

Guided exercises help you implement new approaches to intimacy that work for both partners — not as homework to check off, but as ways of being with each other that gradually become natural.

— your first session

Many couples report feeling more understood by their partner after just one session than they have in years.

Your first session is designed to give you immediate clarity about what’s happening beneath the surface of your desire differences — and a clear sense of what the path forward looks like.
